Usually when I tell people that I am an entrepreneur and run a business from home, some people reply “You’re so lucky. I wish I could too, and spend more time with my kids” (or “have more free time“, etc…).
When coaching clients, most new entrepreneurs think that all they need to do is build a web site and magically they’ll have people banging at their door begging to be their clients!!
I found a great article on Entrepreneur.com entitled Small-Business Myths Busted. It enumerates the most common misconceptions about running a business, then separates myth from reality by telling you the truth on the matter.
Among my favorite are:
- Myth No. 4: “I’ll have more time to do what I want.”
- Myth No. 7: “If I create a website, I’ll get traffic (or the more popular ‘If I build it, they will come.’)”
- Myth No. 6: “I can pay myself whatever I want.”
