In my naivety I had the idea that I was so well known in the local real estate industry that I could just go out there, hand out my new business cards and BOOM… I’d be in business! I am learning that this is much more involved than I anticipated.
Have you fallen prey to the “build it and they will come” syndrome? If so, it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee!! Having a website, brochure, and business cards are good, but it’s just the beginning. These are just materials… devices… instruments. Think of a mechanic who buys a garage, equips it will all the tools he needs to fix cars, and posts a sign on the building. Yes, he may attract the odd client who drives by, but he needs more. He needs a strategy to attract clients.
Once you have marketing materials, you need a strategy to get them to the right people. The strategies that are most effective for your business depends on many things like your location, target market, existing network, budget, etc… But you do need more than a “go out there, hand out my new business cards” plan.
As this person admitted, “I am learning that this is much more involved than I anticipated.” So, how involved are you in marketing your services? What strategies are you using? It’s a lot easier than it sounds. Just stick around here long enough and hopefully I’ll convince you of that.

Business Cards….the price points now allow people to have cards for different audiences, messages and themes. Some with cell phone, some with out, some that emphasize certain services,…the key is to target your message/card to a particular audience. A business card is marketing and targeting your message is effective marketing.
