A Lesson on Values
May 21st, 2007 by Cristina Favreau
What’s most important to you in your life? What are your core values? What are your top 3 values?
Going through the Unstoppable Goals Method program, I’m realizing how important it is to answer the above questions, in a very clear and concise manner — and putting them in writing. The entire USG program is focused on organizing your life and business around your values to achieve the success you really want.
Before now, I never took the time to list the values that truly define who I am. Now I see how important an exercise this is for all entrepreneurs… without it, you’ll zigzag toward your goals instead of approaching them straight on.
My top 10 core values were really hard to narrow down (depends how I feel), but here they are, for the moment :
- Family
- Spirituality
- Financial Freedom
- Honesty/Loyalty
- Professionalism
- Passion
- Simplicity
- Responsibility
- Efficiency
- Intelligence
Other values that rank very high are: Belonging, Trust, Connection, Knowledge, Recognition, Confidence, Dependability/Reliability, Financial Freedom, Perceptiveness, Structure/Process, Accuracy, Team work/Cooperation/Collaboration/Partnership, Wittiness, and Ambition.
PHEW! There’s more… but I’ll leave it at that.
How about you? Take out a pen and paper, and answer this question: What’s most important to me in my life?
The clearer you are about your values, the more aligned your goals will be with who you are, the more likely you are to reach them.
How has identifying your values helped you reach your goals and attain success? Having trouble with this exercise? You’re certainly not alone, so let us know what you need in order to identify your core values.
