You may remember the sad and frustrating event of my bike being stolen in the spring.

Trek 4500 WSDWell, I’m happy to report that I’ve come out of mourning and bought a new bike yesterday (yes I know, summer’s almost over). It’s a Trek 4500 WSD™ made specifically for women, so it’s lighter and more comfortable.

I was so excited, which is a big deal (the baby blues have taken a firm hold on me these past weeks). As soon as I got home, I took my (pre-pregnancy) bike shorts out of hiding and squeezed into them, blew the dust off my helmet, and strapped Katya to my back in her carrier. We took our first ride as a family, and my first ride in a little over 2 years.

Oh yeah, I initiated my bike (and body) by falling. I blame it on a 2-year biking dry spell and too-loose front suspension — don’t worry, I took the beating, not Katya.

My legs and behind are feeling it today; there’s a respectable-sized bruise on my thigh that’s promising to turn all shades of purple and yellow with pedal marks on the back of my ankle. But I like to say: “It’s a good pain!”
