Anti-Procrastination Month: Day 15
October 15th, 2007 by Cristina Favreau
Today marks the half-way point in Anti-Procrastination Month. How are you doing?
Like most people, I tend to resist change!! This has been such a learning experience. As I consciously observe myself without judging (that’s the tricky part) and work at breaking patterns that no longer serve me, my resistance loosens its grip. As I practice being in the present, I’m less anxious.
Here’s a neat pattern-breaking experiment:
- Think of a pattern you’d like to change (procrastinating, nail bitting, overeating, etc).
- For the next few days, mindfully and non-judgmentally observe yourself doing this pattern.
- Note what comes up.
- What aspects would you like to continue about this pattern? What facets of this pattern serve you?
As you continue paying attention to this pattern, you’ll find ways to keep the parts that serve you, and eventually eliminate the pattern that you’d like to break.
This has worked well for me. Let me know how it works out for you.
