Anti-Procrastination Month: Day 19
October 19th, 2007 by Cristina Favreau
Today’s Anti-Procrastination Month tip is: Create mental pictures of successfully completing a project or task, in order to physically respond to the images in a positive way (instead of reacting negatively to self-defeating images).
It’s been said that the nervous system can’t tell the difference between a well-imagined thought and reality. That’s why most people procrastinate.
Not convinced? What comes to mind when you hear public speaking (or insert your least favorite marketing strategy)? Did you just get a shiver? Did your face change expression? Did you say “That’s not for me. I can’t do that“? That’s because you have a ‘well-imagined thought’ — a negative image — in mind of how it will ‘go down.’ OR you’re imagining the painful process of starting yet another project and the LOOONNNGGG chain of events leading you to the (hopeful) accomplishment of said goal.
Turn the negative image into positive energy by simply deciding on your next action and creating an image around that one action.
Once you have created a positive reality for a project, task or goal, it becomes much less overwhelming, much more achievable, much easier to do and you’ll gain forward moving momentum instead of getting stuck in too many details.
