There’s one week left to Anti-Procrastination Month. Today’s post is a little reminder about Focus.

Procrastinators spend a lot of time and energy looking for beguiling activities in order to avoid doing an unpleasant or “boring” task, or as a way of stuffing down their fear of failure.

Pay attention to when you start engaging in busy work and activities requiring no commitment — checking email, surfing the web, playing games, over planning, list making, and anything else unproductive and non constructive occupying your time.

If you catch yourself getting distracted:

  1. Stop whatever you’re doing.
  2. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.
  3. Choose an action item that takes 2 minutes or less to complete.
  4. Execute.
  5. Do the Dance of Joy (even if you’re alone).
  6. Repeat steps 3 to 6.

If you have projects that haven’t been broken down into action items, take just one project and ask “What can I do right now to move me ahead on this project?” You can still keep your focus by breaking it down into 2-minute bite-size chunks, and follow the 6 steps above.

I like this approach and it’s helped me achieve incredible results in a very short period of time.

Now that this blog post is accomplished, please excuse me while I trip the light fantastic!
