Anti-Procrastination Month: Day 9
October 9th, 2007 by Cristina Favreau
Today’s Anti-Procrastination Month piece is about Authenticity. When you’re authentic, procrastination often disappears.
What you resist persists (sorry for the Dr. Phil-ism). Misery and scrambling come about when you try to change (or work against) aspects of your core personality into someone you (or others) think you should be. Trying to be someone you’re not will only make things worse and the more you’ll procrastinate.
Extraordinary things happen when you design programs, systems, processes, products, services, partnerships, etc. that are aligned with your values, personality and authentic self.
As an entrepreneur, you must understand and define:
- Who you are at your best.
- What feels natural and comes easily to you.
If you’re continually putting off a task or project — take a hint. Chances are, it’s not aligned with your goals, wants or desires. Run a self-examination to reveal if you’re being authentic. Here are some questions to get you started:
- What do I really want to accomplish in my business and in my life?
- Am I really “juiced” about what I’m creating?
- Am I doing this because I should, to please someone else or because everyone else is doing it?
- What does this project reveal about my values, my purpose, my mission?
- Do I have the courage to change if I discover I’m not being authentic?
Take time to really look within yourself and be honest about what you find. At first, just observe — don’t judge or criticize what you uncover.
People can always tell when you’re faking (or forcing) it, so getting clear about your authenticity is in your best interest… if you want to be successful and fulfilled, that is.
