This entire Office Organization Venture project is all about automation, so I decided to subscribe to an online backup service in addition to my external drive. Like you say, these negative circumstances are never something you hope for, but being prepared for such an event makes getting through them a little more bearable. All that being said, should you decide on an on-line file storage system, do some thinking before hand to come up with a consistent naming policy for all your files.
