Anti-Procrastination Month ’08: Day 14
October 20th, 2008 by Cristina Favreau
Pascale Récher is a young French blogger who wants to give her readers the desire to think and the energy to act, stress-free as well as sharing the difficulties encountered along the way. Pascale’s blogs are Penser Agir (stress management and organization), Pascale Recher (cosmetics and glamor) and Parole de nounou (parenting).
Here are her procrastination-beating tips:
- I think about what is the worst thing that could happen if I don’t do the task. Then I try to feel the stress/bad feelings that would result. Because I’ve already ‘been there, done that,’ I can really feel it — In my stomach. Then I contrast it with the nice feelings that would result if I finish the task quickly and got a tiny treat for it. (From a nice cup of tea with my preferred biscuit to bigger treat, depending on the task to complete).
- I allow myself a “catch-up day” where I give myself 2 hours to complete some stuff I failed to do recently. I really try to imagine I’m on a silly game with a timer… and of course a prize. Having a limited time and Indulging yourself when it’s finished is always good.
- I’ve got a software with repeating tasks. So anything I want to do often but tend to avoid gets listed several times until I do it. It pushes my guilt button and I finally do it.
- I try to think about something bigger than the task. Like, how good I would feel completing it, I would be setting a good example for my nephew, a specific person will be proud of me, etc. A kind of indirect accountability I guess.
Merci Pascale for sharing!
