This is one of the best times of the year for us Quebecers, because we get 2 long weekends in a row.

June 24th is a province-wide holiday affectionately called “la St-Jean”, where employed people have a statutory day off (not to rub it in, but I’m taking BOTH days off; but if I’m blogging, does it count as a day off?).

July 1st is Canada Day, so that means another long weekend.

In years past, my hubby and I would take this time to drive to Rhode Island and visit my sister. If both holidays made 2 long weekends, my husband would take 4 days off work and we’d enjoy a full 9 days with 2 back-to-back long weekends. I LOVE spending time with my sister, but this year it’s just not the same for a few reasons:

My sis and BIL now live in NY state so spear fishing and scuba diving is just not as fun for the boys in fresh water as it was in the ocean.

We each have 2 kids, so going out to do ANYTHING is a challenge (taking 2 carloads, one screaming kid creates the “domino effect”, and having a peaceful meal at a restaurant enjoying adult conversation is close to impossible).

My sister lives in a small apartment. We’d be crammed in a room with the 2 kids on a double futon mattress.

So here’s a reminder to take advantage of the lazy days of summer. Here in Montreal, the season is just too short.

Rest, relax and take in the sun.esmovies sapphic extrememovie xxx free adult directoryfree pussy movies downloadfree movie hentai downloadsmika movie tanmovies swingersupskirt movies Map

Well, I’m back from my week-long mini-vacation and I just wanted to keep this post light by sharing a few highlights.

On June 2nd, I packed our van and left with my kids to spend the week with my Mom and Step-Dad where they are house-sitting in Sutton, Québec. My husband joined us on Friday. As you can tell from the picture, it’s a beautiful and private spot — perfect to reconnect with nature and rejuvenate the soul!

It was nice to take a break from the routine, breathe in the country air, enjoy the awesome weather and be with family. We had a full house — My middle sister came from New York with her 2 kids and my 5-year-old niece (my little sister’s kid) spent 3 days with us. For the first few days, we were outnumbered 4 adults to 5 kids!!! My Mom was in Grandma heaven.

My son is a lot like my husband, in that he’s a hard-core outdoor type! He can’t watch TV for more than 15 minutes before getting bored and asking to go outside. Living on a 3rd floor apartment makes it hard to do what he loves — spend the entire day outdoors, playing and exploring. So, you can imagine how much he enjoyed this vacation — his laughing smile in this picture says it all!

I was sad to leave the house and drive back to the hot, loud, crowded city of Montreal, but I’m honestly glad to be back — refreshed and ready to take on anything!

Stay tuned to find out 3 great things that happened to my business while I was away.

I received an interesting letter yesterday (written in French) from a German company called DAD Deutscher Adressdienst GmbH who is, supposedly, THE Canadian Internet Register (Registre Internet du Canada) — OH, THEM! It MUST be important! Yeah, whatever.

Except for the thin recycled paper it’s printed on, the letter is official-looking, nicely presented and includes a business reply envelope (to Germany).

At first glance, it appears as if they are simply asking me to update my information for their records. Apparently, I can even select 3 keywords for their directory.

However, when reading the fine print, I find out that by signing the form, I agree to being invoiced $1457 per year for registering my web site and “listing” on their useless “directory” for the next 3 years.

Funny, why would I pay if I’m already listed?

Check out the StopECG blog for an image of what the letter looks like.

Don’t get caught… It’s obviously a scam. If you receive a similar letter or email, run it through the shredder (based on my quick research, people have reported receiving this letter in the UK and Belgium).

WARNING: This post is a rant of personal nature. Proceed with caution.

===

This past Friday was such a beautiful day, so my husband rode his bike to work for the first time this year. He left at around 7:15 a.m. When he got home, at around 3:00 p.m., he was surprised to see me home. Our conversation went something like this:

“I thought you went for a ride with Katya. Where’s your bike?”

“I don’t know. It’s not in the garage?”

“Nope. It was hanging right next to mine when I left this morning, now it’s gone.”

[enter long and uncomfortable silence here]

You guessed it, my bike got stolen! Not only that, it was taken from our locked garage in broad daylight, right under our nose! It’s like they were watching us, just waiting for us to leave so they can take it. At least my hubby took his bike to work, or else we’d be out 2 bikes.

If you’re not an avid biker, you may think I’m exaggerating when I say I feel deeply hurt, humiliated, violated and emotional about my loss. If you are, you know what I mean.

You see, my husband and I, that’s OUR thing… that’s what we do for fun, and we want to pass the love of outdoors to our children. With the nice weather finally here, we couldn’t wait to take our kids biking this weekend. It quite literally BURNS me in my chest, knowing someone else is enjoying my bike, while I sit around in my apartment.

It wasn’t just any mountain bike, it was a 2004 Giant XTC 2 — yeah, the one with the lightweight SL frame and disk brake… I chose it especially for the frame. I shopped around for months, searching for THE perfect bike and saved up all my money. It was my gift to myself! That was 3 years ago, when I bought it brand new. I used it for one season, then I got pregnant — twice in 2 years. So taking it out this year was still like taking out my new mountain bike… I got butterflies in my stomach thinking about FINALLY taking it out… We’re simple people — we don’t own many expensive things, but when we do buy something that is somewhat valuable (usually an outdoor sports item), it’s for something we truly enjoy, because it’s worth it to us, and we plan on using it for many, many years.

When my husband asked me what I’d prefer: getting another semi-high-end bike or buying a cheap one at Wal-Mart, I didn’t know what to say. The truth is, I don’t WANT another bike… I want MY bike… MY Giant. If this has ever happened to you, you know what I’m talking about. Besides, I don’t have the luxury of spending $1500 on a bike anymore… That’s why I did it THEN.

Someone has taken away one of the few precious things I’m truly passionate about. Not only that, now I’m paranoid and ultra sensitive to everything going on around me, wondering what will get stolen next. I can’t help but wonder with every little noise I hear if it’s someone looting our garage, or maybe they’re trying to get in our home. Worse still, we look suspiciously at people who go by our place, wondering if they’re the culprit.

I’m consumed with trying to find my bike. I spent my morning calling bike and pawn shops to see if the perpetrators brought in my bike for cash… I know it’s a lost cause, but I remain guardedly hopeful. In the meantime, I’ll wallow around a little longer.

Sorry for the rant. I know it’s unhealthy to carry on like this. Plus, I’m exhausted. “What you concentrate on is what you give power to” and right now, I’m concentrating on the negative. Know that I’m working on making this alright and turning my spirits around.

It’s only one day past my due date, but feels like I’ve been waiting ages for this baby to come; I was beginning to think I’d be pregnant forever (those who’ve been there know what I’m talking about). Things were put in perspective this morning — at 3am — as contractions started with a vengeance. [give me about 30 seconds... here's one now...]

I won’t bore you with the gory details. Suffice to say, I’ll be out of commission for the next while, but I won’t forget you for too long.

Stay tuned for an official birth announcement, then it’s back to business (I’ll start slow, if you don’t mind)!!

Send good vibes my way… I’ll need them!!
